08/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chowder came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Chowder was a bit fearful but became relaxed and allowed all handling. Chowder came into the assessment room nervous and tense; he will consistently keep his distance from the handler. He would give direct hard stare and he also was very jumpy every time the handler would attempt to touch him or hear loud noises. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Chowder is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. We feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Dog-dog: Chowder greets the other male dog displaying neutral body language. He mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in the pen. He is tolerant of the other dog’s correction when he greets him for too long.
08/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Chowder was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown. 8/22: When off leash at the Care Center, Chowder greets with a soft, loose body but does not engage much further socially with the other dog and wanders the pen. After some time, he becomes slightly sexually motivated but responds well to interruptions by the handlers. 8/26: Chowder greets the other male dog displaying neutral body language. He mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in the pen. He is tolerant of the other dog’s correction when he greets him for too long.
