KNOWN HISTORY: Unknown Unaltered, Owner surrender Bite history: Bit a member of the household in the shoulder while they were playing rough with him. Other notes: Upon intake Choco appeared friendly and allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/19/2016 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, mouth closed Tag: 3. Dog runs and plays, quickly escalates and grabs leash, jumping on assessor Squeeze 1 :1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1. Dog playfully engages, keeps a firm grip, body loose Summary: Choco remained friendly and allowed handling throughout his assessment though displays high energy and movement. Choco appears to have a low threshold for arousal and escalates quickly in play (see known history); force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing him to new and unfamiliar situations. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/9/16 During his initial medical exam Choco appeared to be sweet and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition (See known history; Decreasing the force of the mouth as well as the frequency of mouthing, in this order is recommended by using force-free, reward based training as well to reinforce a soft appropriate mouth and redirect hard inappropriate mouthing onto toys.)
