I am a male white and black chihuahua sh and maltese mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 01/03/2016 from NY 10468, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER SICK.

1/3/16 14:45 Basic information: Chispha a 1 yr. old Chihuahua SH hair Maltese mix. The Owner breed him in the home; he has owned Chispha for a year. The owner surrendered Chispha because the owner is sick and can no longer care for him. Chispha has no health problems and has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Chispha is friendly playful. Chispha has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know. Chispha has lived with two small dog (parents) and got along very well with them. Chispha has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that Chispha is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away or when someone disturbs him while sleeping. Chispha likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he may bark at them at first nil he feels comfortable around the person. The owner does not know how Chispha is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Chispha as friendly and playful with a medium activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. In the home Chispha tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Chispha sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on dog bed. Chispha was fed human food (chicken rice and other table scraps) twice times a day (but has been seen eating dry dog food). He is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Chispha does not know any commands. For exercise Chispha is used to brisk walks on the leash and twice a day and does not pull on the leash. He has never been walked off the leash. Behavior during intake: During intake Chispha was somewhat tense with stiff body when approached by staff. Chispha allowed to be, scanned (-), collared, photographed and placing in dog kennel.

Chispha is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He tries to hide under the chair and desk. Chispha was extremely fearful with his tail between his rear legs and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. During the look Chispha wrinkle the top of his muzzle, his lips up vertically to display his front teeth. The behavior department decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources he was not interested in toys. Chispha was surrender to us. The owner describes Chispha as friendly and playful with a medium activity level. Chispha has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know. Chispha has lived with two small dogs and got along very well with them The owner stats that Chispha is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away The owner stats that Chispha is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
