09/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chipper came into the Care Center as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Allowed all handling to be conducted. During SAFER, Chipper was friendly and had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Chipper was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Chipper was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Chipper appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body; Dog mouths leash, but quickly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup:When off leash at the care center, Chipper greets with a slightly tense body. Once inside the pen he becomes sexually motivated, attempts to mount several times and is persistent after being interrupted.
09/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Chipper was brought in as a stray so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Chipper persistently mounts male and female dogs. He persists after interruptions and requires intervention from handlers to be removed for the other dog’s back. The Behavior Department recommends that Chipper be the only dog in the home though a dog-dog interaction can be conducted pre-adoption to ensure compatibility. 9/12: Chipper greets with a slightly tense body. Once inside the pen he becomes sexually motivated, attempts to mount several times and is persistent after being interrupted. 9/20: When greeting a male dog, Chipper displays soft body language. Once in the pen, Chipper immediately mounts the male dog, persisting after handler interruptions. He requires intervention from handlers to be removed for the other dog’s back.
