Very friendly and playful
01/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: China is very quiet and serious in her kennel. She has all the reasons to be stern..Her family lost its home. Her whole universe fell apart…China is at her door, watching the ins and outs of her ward…like a pooch waiting for his/her master buying some groceries. It is just me, China, but better than ..nothing.. China is a good walker and is likely house trained. She is very proper with every dog met, even the little ones. She does not lower herself…and chase the birds…Middle aged ladies have their dignity… Back at the care center, free in a pen, China comes when called and sits very nicely on command. She loves treats and takes them delicately from my hand. She is quite demanding and opinionated and will bark if I am not delivering the goodies fast enough…My old Pug does just the same…China does not always keep a straight face. Put her in a playgroup and you will see with delight that she is really having fun…She is one of our greeters ….Good girl!! We are hoping for the best for this great gal…I hope a return to her family is in the cards as she has been beautifully cared for and clearly loved….If it is not, China is a fun and smart dame to spend time with and will make a wonderful forever best friend. China is dreaming and hoping at the Manhattan Care Center.
01/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
China came into our center after she was left behind in an apartment. She was very friendly and playful upon intake. China was social and affectionate upon entering the SAFER assessment room. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, low wagging tail, relaxed body. China stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, head a bit low, low wagging tail. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft and tail wagging. China quickly pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with a loose wiggly body and wagging tail. China approached the helper dog with tail at spine level, ears back, slight whine. The Behavior Team feels China would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is low wagging, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still with head low, her eyes are averted, her tail is low wagging, body soft, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. 01/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
China is social and respectful when interacting with both male and female dogs. She engages briefly in play and is tolerant of dogs who are more playful and attempt to solicit her. China entered the care center as a stray, so her in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations the behavior deparment feels that China could go to a home with another calmer, playful dog. When off leash with other dogs, China greets politely. She shows brief interest in play but doesn’t engage fully. 1/13 update: China solicits and engages in brief bouts of gentle play with males and females. 1/14: China continues to engage in bouts of gentle play with males and females.
