01/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/14/16 15:49 Chimichurri is a young male APBT mix. He was found at roaming around a gas station parking lot loose for 1 day. He was friendly with the customers and employees and was well-behaved during the car ride here. Chimichurri had a super loose, wiggly, sometimes slightly low body and fast wagging tail during all handling – scan (-), collar, petting, switching leashes, and positioning him for pictures. He even maintained this and rolled over for tummy rubs (still with a loose, wiggly body) during his medical exam and vaccines. He often licked us. He took treats from us gently.
01/18/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Talk about cute…..Chimichurri really fits the description…He owns a lovely round face and makes a pout that reminds me of a Boxer. He is beautifully dressed in a silvery suit and looks at me with gentle dark grey eyes. Chimichurri is quite angelic looking…He is a young guy , though and pretty strong, a bit unfocused and unruly. The good thing is that he is sociable, friendly and loving and responds beautifully to treats. He seems to like other dogs but is a little bit all over the place in playgroups with there dogs, like a very silly puppy. Chimichurry pulls quite a bit on the leash, he is an active youngster who needs some training. He will try to get the lead and the leash but he is so responsive to treats that a piece of dry liver will get him in the sitting position. Chimichurry must have been taught to play ball and retrieve. He runs and jumps quite fast and one has to keep on his or her toes… Based on our observations, he does not guard at all his stuff, food or a toy and I can remove the ball from his big mouth without any problem. Chimichurry is a big boy but he is still a puppy at heart and loves caresses and kisses. What he needs is an active master and a teacher who will show him how to channel his energy into all the good things we are expecting from a pet. Chimichurri is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center to meet his new mom or dad and become the rockstar I know he CAN be.
01/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chimichurri came to us as a stray, so we can only report behaviors observed while in our care. Chimichurri was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room with very soft body language. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. He had soft body language when engaging in play with the assessor on the tag interaction. Some staff members have reported that sometimes on walks when engaging in play he can at time be a bit rough and jump on you strongly. For this reason, the behavior department recommends that Chimichurri go to a home that can provide a lot of mental and physical stimulation for him and his high energy. The behavior department believes that he can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. When off leash with other dogs Chimichurri is forward, immediately entering the yard and attempting to jump onto the helper dog to play. He solicits but may lack appropriate social skills to know when the other dog is not comfortable with his play style.
01/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Chimichurri is exuberant when he plays, often not respecting the other dogs when they are not comfortable with his play style. He is forward when he enters the yard and will jump onto and over the female dog (he has not yet been introduced to a male) and does eventually attempt to mount. He entered the care center as a stray, so his in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations the behavior department recommends Chimichurri have a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with other dogs to ensure the resident dog is comfortable with his play style. When off leash with other dogs Chimichurri is forward, immediately entering the yard and attempting to jump onto the helper dog to play. He solicits but may lack appropriate social skills to know when the other dog is not comfortable with his play style. 1/16 update: Chimichurri, again, is forward upon introduction, jumping on the other dog. He is pushy in his solicitations and may attempt to mount. When the interaction ceases he begins to whine loudly at the gate. 1/20 update: Chimichurri continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs, as well as attempting to mount the female he is interacting with.
