09/18/17 11:47 Basic information Chico is a 3 year old male large breed dogs. owner got him from a friend when he was a puppy. Owner is surrendering due to there living situation. There are no health or injuries owner is concerned about. Chico saw a vet when he was a puppy. Socialization Around strangers, he is friendly and outgoing and allows petting all over from everyone. He spent time with a newborn and was relaxed and played gentle with the child. With adults, he plays gentle but if you play rough with him he will play rough. He has not been around dogs or cats so behavior is unknown. There are no bite history with a person or animal. Behavior There are no behavior issues owner is concerned about. He isnt bothered with storm or fireworks. He isnt bothered with touching of food bowl, taking a bone or toy out his mouth, unfamiliar approaches on the street. He struggles with bath time by trying to get out. It is unknown with trimming of nails. for the new family to know Owner described him as friendly and anxious with a high activity level. When owner is home, he follows you around. He plays chew bones fetch. He is kept mostly indoors and slept on a dog bed. He eats dry food. He is very house trained and rarely has accidents. When left alone in house he is well behaved. He knows sit as a command. He pulls very hard on leash and owner has never been off leash Behavior during intake. Chico was very social during intake. He came up tot eh counselor with a loose wiggly body. Chico jumped up and enjoyed being pet. Chico allowed to be scanned and collared with no problem. He allowed all handling and was very sweet.

Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth, and is bit anxious. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/18/17 Durin the initial examination Chico was friendly and loose body language, allows exam/treatment with minimal restraint. IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: During a session of Playgroup, Chico was displaying inappropriate behavior with another male dog. Both handlers in the pens began to use a variety of tools, in an attempt to interrupt him. When an air corrector was blown, while in close proximity of him, Chico directed a low growl towards the handler. The dogs were separated, and Chico immediately displayed a soft body, allowing all handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: The owner reports Chico has a high energy, and is anxious, but friendly. In the care center Chico has been active and enthusiastic. He may have a low threshold for arousal and needs guidance to learn how to appropriately channel that energy when he becomes overstimulated. Chico will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below). _X_No young children (under 5)-Due to Chico’s response to some of the SAFER handling items seen in the care center, we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered pending interaction.

He is sexually motivated-licks the greeter’s genitals- but immediately cease when handlers interrupt. He explores his the pen the rest of his session. 9/20: Chico entered the pen, scratching and crying at the gate. He displayed a tense body and intensely sniffed a male’s genital before repeatedly muzzle punching him. He was difficult to interrupt and was separated immediately.
