04/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: That face! Chico has the softest, kindest, sweetest face I’ve seen in a long time. It radiates good will and friendship as his eyes sparkle, tail wags, and butt wiggles! He’s one friendly boy, out to make new friends and have a good time. He’s energetic and fun, thrilled for a chance to go outside to go potty. Chico pulls hard on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training to make it a more enjoyable walk for all. It’s in the backyard where he thrives as he loves playing with a ball batting it around the pen with his feet – quite the accomplished soccer player!! He’s so much fun to watch and play with, who needs to go out for entertainment when you’ll have the best at home! Surrendered to our care due to “personal problems” we’re told that Chico lived with 6 kids ages 2-19 and was playful with and respectful of the kids. He doesn’t guard his stuff, takes baths, is well behaved when left home alone, is housetrained and is high energy. We’re also told that Chico loves other dogs, and in playgroup he was high energy and a bit anxious. I adored my time with Chico, his sweet nature, friendly playfulness and simple ability to have a great time won my heart. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s also gorgeous and clearly well taken care of. If a happy, friendly, playful, sweet absolutely delightful companion is who you’re hoping to meet, be sure to ask for Chico when you visit.
04/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chico pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy with a soft body language. Chico was surrender to us. Chico previous family described him as friendly, affectionate and playful. chico has a very high activity level. Chico is super friendly around strangers. Chico plays exhuberantly Chico lived with 6 children, ranging in ages from 2-19 years old. He was playful and respectful of the children. Chico has never lived with another dog, but he loves all kinds of dogs. Chico did bit a child last month, accidentally. Chico allows you to take away his food bowl, water bowl or toy away”. Chico is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. Chico appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Chico approaches and offers polite greeting. Afterward, he becomes more focused on seeking attention from handlers.
04/13/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

Chico is anxious but briefly engages in play with other dogs. He corrects when solicited with pushier play styles. The behavior department recommends a pre adoption interaction for Chico to ensure compatability with a resident dog. Afterward, he becomes more focused on seeking attention from handlers. 4/14 update: Chico is a bit ‘high-strung’ and frantic when out in the yard. He is a bit playful but corrects when solicited with a pushy style of play. 4/15 update: Chico engages in very brief play when solicited. He is otherwise anxious and seeks exit. 4/20 update: Chico solicits play but then seeks attention from handlers when the other dogs do not reciprocate play.
