01/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: 01/13/17 Intact female, Owner Surrender (l3 years in previous home) Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Growls and snaps. Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Growls and snaps. Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: Yes, has been bitten leaving two puncture wounds on left hand of individual who went to get up from the couch. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Playful, affectionate, confident and friendly with familiar people; high activity level Other notes: During intake, Chicita remained tense; she growled and snapped at the counselor when attempting to handle. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 01/25/17 Summary: Chicita has been difficult to remove from and return to the kennel. Chicita has allowed some handling in the care center but she is tense and avoids interaction with her new caretakers. She watches and tracks the humans around her carefully at all times. Due to the behaviors observed, and out of concern for her stress level, we do not feel it is appropriate to perform a handling assessment at this time. Please review the full owner surrender profile for information on Chicita’s behavior in his previous home as a guideline. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 01/13/17 During her initial medical examination, Chicita snapped towards handling and remained uncomfortable throughout. ENERGY LEVEL:

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Chicita be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Chicita to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Chicita to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Chicita presents with outside of the care centers.) Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Reactivity towards other humans was noted by the previous owner (lunging, growling). Because this appears to present a challenge outside of the care centers, guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly advised to assess this behavior and modify/manage as needed.)
