04/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: While I hate to admit that I’m old enough to have sung along with Neil Diamond at the time, his lyrics, “she got the way to move me, she got the way to groove me, Cherry baby” immediately came to mind as I leashed this gorgeous girl from her kennel. Quietly waiting for her turn for a walk, without intending to I saved the best for last as she’s amazing. Her leash manners are lovely, she’s likely housetrained, she checks up often while we walk, and she’s all about hugs and cuddles and her tennis ball. Cherry is slender, her brindlicious coat a gorgeous blend of color and pattern, and while she has a slight boo boo on her nose it will heal and be done with. In the backyard she loved playing with a tennis ball, up and down on the bench with it for a good chomp, happiest when she could chomp it and lie in my lap all at the same time. She greets other dogs as they pass our pen, and in group play she’s quiet, allows sniffing in doggie ‘how do you do’, and shows interest in a calm male dog. I took Cherry into her behavior assessment where she wowed the team with her friendliness, immediately hugging the assessor, and standing on her hind legs with his assistant to help him find something on the desk. She’s a riot! It’s impossible to not fall in love with this quiet, affectionate and calmly playful stunning girl. We’ll send her home with a tennis ball or two, so come meet her today!
Another volunteer writes: Tennis ball! Lap! Tennis ball! Lap! We, too, would be torn, but that’s because we aren’t as smart as this gorgeous love muffin of a girl, who has figured out a way to have both–grab a ball, hop in a lap! She is so gentle that she has no issues with having the ball taken right out of her mouth, as long as she can then use her freed tongue to give you giant kisses, and she would prefer to take a ball on a walk with you, too, if you won’t mind, but has no problems with our taking it out again just because you can’t believe she would be so amazing. This dog is AMAZING. She is stunningly gorgeous, with a gentleness and gracefulness that belie her size. We are all in love with her and you will be, too. Cherry is an amazing family dog patiently awaiting her family! Tennis ball collection is entirely negotiable.
04/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cherry pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Cherry followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. She took the toy with a soft body language. Cherry did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, wagging tail, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. playgroup Notes: Cherry approaches to sniff and shows interest in a calm male dog. She offers a brief paw slap.
04/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cherry initially kept to herself, but has shown more interest in play during off leash socialization. She has been introduced to both males and females and has engaged with both while in our care. She arrived as a stray so history with other dogs is unknown. The behaviro department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatability with resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Cherry allows the other dog to sniff her but keeps to herself. 4/7 update: Cherry approaches to sniff and shows interest in a calm male dog. She offers a brief paw slap. 4/12 update: Cherry shows more interest in play. She offers correction for mounting.
