02/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/10/16 12:43hrs Cherish displayed a soft body and wagging tail when she entered the Admissions Office. She was very energetic while seated where she would wag her tail very quickly and sit in one spot for a few seconds and then move about. She would jump up onto the Admissions Counselors legs when called. After she was given treats, she would repeatedly bark and jump up for more. She allowed touching and petting on her and back. She was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed.
02/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A tiny treasure with ears for days, Cherish was found with her sisters Cardyn (A1064842) and Carina (A1064851), and while she’s the smallest member of the family, this little dynamo has the biggest personality of all! Shy and a bit timid at first (she pancakes to the floor as soon as the elevator moves), once Cherish warms up there’s no end to her happy and athletic antics. Though she’s already had puppies of her own, bring out a ball and she’s a carefree baby again, eager to play fetch or vacuum up treats and happy to sit politely for both. Cherish is a great retriever and never guards her toys, returning to my side for petting and praise before giving the ball up easily right from her mouth, and it’s such a treat to see her lose herself in the fun of the game. She walks nicely on leash, seems to be house trained, and while she does greet other dogs nicely at first, prolonged contact makes her uncomfortable, so introductions to new four-legged friends should be made very slowly. Cherish is a snuggly sweetheart who so deserves to have a life that lives up to her name, and she’s waited two long years for her chance at the limelight…will yours be the lucky family to offer her a starring role?
02/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
2/20 update: Cherish is showing stress in this environment–chewing on and licking kennel bars and excessively salivating. She remains social with both humans and dogs outside of her kennel. She is still appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of experience but we feel it’s in her best interest to leave the care center environment quickly. 2/12 SAFER: Cherish pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Cherish played tug-of-war with the leash, body was soft (played growl and was not difficult to distract her). Cherish took the toy away but had soft body language. Cherish did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Grab at the leash with a soft body played growl and was not difficult to distract her. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Cherish greets and is interested when dogs play near her. She, however, will offer a quick growl when she is solicited.
02/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cherish is pushy and rude, lacking appropriate social skills when interacting with both males and females. She mounts, runs into dogs and continues to push into them/give paw slaps when repeated correction is offered. She came from a home with two other females, but she arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing Cherish into a home with other dogs, as well as doing slow, careful introductions to ensure she can be appropriate and the resident dog is comfortable with her exuberant play style. When off leash with other dogs Cherish greets and is interested when dogs play near her. She, however, will offer a quick growl when she is solicited. 2/17 update: Cherish briefly solicits pushy play. She begins to assertively mount the other dog. 2/18 update: Cherish is playful and solicitous but becomes pushy and mouthy when soliciting. She does not immediately slow down with correction. 2/19 update: Cherish is pushy and rude when soliciting and engaging in play. She pushes the other dogs with her paws and solicits harder when correction is offered. 2/20 update: Cherish is more polite when engaging with dogs she has previously interacted with. She will mount but responds well to the correction.
