Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, mouth closed
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, briefly responds to squeak sound, does not engage
Summary: Cheerio appeared fearful throughout assessment, though tolerated handling.
PLAYGROUP:
Cheerio greets politely and wanders the pen.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial 9/7/2017
During his initial medical exam, Cheerio was trembling but allowed all handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Cheerio so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center he displays with low to medium energy.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially in the behavior outlined below)
Potential Challenges:
_X_ Fearful – Cheerio was timid but allowed all handling. He would do best with a slow approach, and being spoken to in a soft, gentle voice.
