09/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cheech came into our center due to conflict in the home that resulted in a bite (several deep punctures) to the owner’s forearm. It Is reported Cheech lived with 3 teenagers and 2 adults, did not interact much with the teenagers, appeared closer to the adults in the home. Owner reports Cheech lived with a cat, never engaged in play- also lived with another dog, they played together, lounged together, and played chase in the backyard together for hours at a time. When strangers come over it is reported Cheech approaches with a loose body and sniff, would sometimes jump up and gives kisses to stranger after a few hours in the house. He is reportedly house trained. Cheech is described as affectionate, mellow, and sometimes aloof. Cheech was friendly upon entering the SAFER assessment area. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed. Cheech leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft. He followed at the end of the leash for Tag game. Cheech leaned into assessor during positioning for Squeeze item, did not pull his paw back on both attempts. Cheech took Toy away, body not stiff. He approached the helper dog with tail above spine level, not stiff. Due to the severity of the injury from the bite, we recommend an adult only home for Cheech. Cheech does not seem to respond well to loud voices or challenging body language, so we recommend positive reinforcement and force-free training for Cheech. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, body not stiff Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.

05/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cheech came into our center after the owner kissed his wife goodbye and Cheech jumped up/bit owner on the arm leaving four puncture wounds (treated at home). Owner reports at times Cheech would become protective of owners if they were together and showing each other affection, will display same behavior if other dog in the home were receiving affection. Cheech was calm and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, soft. Cheech leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft, ears neutral. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, settled easily at end. Cheech gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He was hesitant to approach Toy, backing away, but once engaged he playfully chewed it and barked playfully at the sound it made. Cheech investigated the helper dog and then turned away. The Behavior Team feels Cheech would do well with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1.
