PROFILE:
Basic Information:
Cheech is a 12 year old neutered male Chihuahua mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of.
Socialization:
According to the owner, Cheech is fearful and shy around strangers. It takes him a few hours to feel comfortable around the,. He is gentle and respectful of children, but is usually tense around them and when they move too fast or run around, Cheech will growl. He has never been around cats but he has been around a 4 year old Pitbull before, and is relaxed and playful around her. He has never bitten another person or animal before.
Behavior:
Around storms and fireworks, Cheech is nervous and will shake and hide. He is friendly when all grooming agents are applied to him except when his nails or feet are touched. He will growl and does not like this. When someone unfamiliar approaches the house, Cheech will growl and bark. He has no guarding issues and his food, toy or bone can be taken away from him with no issues according to the owner.
For a New Family to Know:
Cheech is described as friendly with a medium to high activity level. When in the home, he is the type to follow you around the house. He rarely plays with toys and was kept indoors only. He slept in his crate and does very well in it. He was fed wet and dry Pedigree dog food twice a day. He is house trained and rarely has any accidents inside. When left alone in the house, Cheech is well behaved. For exercise, Cheech was let out in the yard. On the leash, he does pull somewhat hard. When off the leash, he wanders for a bit but comes when he is called. He used the bathroom on any grass available.
BEHAVIOR :
SAFER – EXPERIENCED HOME
Cheech came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s declining health. Owner reports Cheech is usually gentle and respectful of children, but may become tense and growl if they move too fast or run around. Behavior around cats is unknown, Cheech has been in the company of a pitbull, relaxed and playful. It is reported Cheech is tolerant of all grooming agents except feet touched and nails trimmed he will growl. Cheech may growl and bark if someone unfamiliar approaches the house. It is reported he is not bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. It is reported Cheech is house trained to go outside on grass and crate trained, sleeping in it at night. He is reportedly well behaved when left alone in the home. Cheech allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body low. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears neutral, mouth closed. Cheech followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, soft. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Cheech showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Cheech is loose and wiggly with both male and female dogs. He is tolerant and does not offer any corrections. Due to owner surrender profile, the Behavior Team feels Cheech would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body low. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft
Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Cheech is loose and wiggly with both male and female dogs. He is tolerant and does not offer any corrections.
