SOCIALIZATION Chaz is friendly/outgoing with new people. He lived with a 6-year old autistic child and had 3, 6, and 7 year old children visiting often. He is relaxed, playful, affectionate, gentle, and very tolerant with them. His boy regularly builds his train tracks around him, and he enjoys spending the time together. Chaz lived with a small senior male dog and they are relaxed, playful, affectionate, and tolerant together. He’s friendly and playful with small dogs he meets outside but barks at large ones. A volunteer writes: “He allowed his autistic human brother to build his train tracks around him as he lay there.” Can there be a better testimonial to the soft, gentle nature of Chaz? Surrendered due to NYCHA restrictions, we’re told Chaz welcomed visiting children, lived with a small male senior dog and was relaxed and playful with him, but may bark at larger dogs. Chaz was also a frequent visitor to a home with many cats and was friendly towards them. He doesn’t guard his things, is housetrained, knows ‘sit’ and ‘stay’, likes to play fetch and chase, and enjoyed human food as snacks. It’s clear Chaz was a cherished family companion, his coat is clean and groomed, his weight good for his size, and he’s happy to meet new people, alert and curious to his surroundings. He’s doing the best he can although clearly wondering where his family and especially “his boy” have gone. As Chaz and I walked he wagged his tail at passersby, but did occasionally bark at a person as his former owner advised. After exchanging some kisses I had to put Chaz back in his kennel, but promised him we would find him a new family to love and take care of. Won’t you help make my promise to him come true?

Chaz was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Chaz took the toy with a soft body language. Chaz was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he is friendly/outgoing with new people. He lived with a 6-year old autistic child and had 3, 6, and 7 year old children visiting often. He is relaxed, playful, affectionate, gentle, and very tolerant with them. Chaz lived with a small senior male dog and they are relaxed, playful, affectionate, and tolerant together. He’s friendly and playful with small dogs he meets outside but barks at large ones. He visited a home with many cats and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy”. Chaz is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. He get uncomfortable around other friendly dogs during playgroup The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. A volunteer writes:   Sweaters are gifts.  Neckties are gifts.  Candy is a gift.   Animals should not be gifts.   We need to choose our lifetime companions.  So, come meet Chaz!!!  Surrendered by his owner who received him as a gift, we’re told he’s friendly and outgoing with strangers, was playful and affectionate with his 6 year old human sibling, doesn’t guard his stuff, enjoys baths, is housetrained when walked 2-3x per day, is well behaved when home alone, and knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘ooooooooh’ to indicate he’s doing something wrong.  I loved my time with Chaz….he’s good looking, pleasantly round as he’s been fed with love, and while he pulled on the leash at first, after he went potty his leash manners were lovely.  His handsome caramel coat is clean and soft, his little tail wags, wags, wags, he loved playing with a toy and a ball in the yard, and when I told him he was a good boy his tail wagged harder.  After we played Chaz climbed on the bench to lie down, ball tucked safely under him and enjoyed the body massage I gave him.   Chaz’s easy going nature, friendly, calm and gentle personality speaks to me of a family dog.  He’s without his family now, and hoping to adopt a new one.   He’s accepting applications now and hopes that you’ll submit yours.   Chaz has GOOD DOG written all over him!

Basic Information

Chaz was brought in as an owner’s surrender. Owner has had Chaz for the past year after receiving him as a gift. Owner says Chaz does not have any injuries or health concerns and was last seen by the vet last year.

Socialization & Behavior

Chaz is said to be outgoing and playful when meeting strangers. He lived with a 6-year old and was playful and gentle with her. Chaz also lived with a 6-year old and owner says he was affectionate and playful with the child. According to owner there have been no past issues of Chaz biting anyone or another animal. Chaz is unbothered if owner touches food while eating, he says he’ll stop eating. Chaz allows owner to remove items from his mouth, and is trained not to get onto furniture. Chaz is said to be relaxed and unbothered if disturbed while sleeping. Owner says Chaz enjoys baths and tolerates nail trims. Chaz is said to be unbothered if someone approaches home, or owner while out.

For a New Family to Know

Chaz is described as confident, excitable, and playful with a medium activity level. When home he is normally following his owner and enjoys toy balls. Chaz goes out 2-3 times per day, and is housing trained using the bathroom outdoors. When home alone he is said to be well behaved. Chaz understands commands sit, stay, and “oooooh” to indicate he’s doing something wrong. Owner says he pulls on leash and needs a harness. When off leash Chaz stays close to his owner.

Behavior during Intake

Chaz was very friendly during intake. He accepted treats and sat when instructed to. Chaz remained calm when there was a vocal large breed dog on the other side of the room. Chaz allowed all handling to be conducted, and showed no signs of aggression during intake.
