07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chase pulls hard on leash. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He showed some concerning behavior during the tag interaction: Chase growled and air snapped at the assessor. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Chase was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 5. Dog growls, air snapped. Toy 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: Chase enters the yard and once he sees the other dog he drops low to the ground, stiffens and charges the gate; he will use his muzzle to push hard into the gate trying to get to the dog. A muzzle is placed, and he is introduced. When the door is opened Chase charges the gate, jumps onto the helper dog, growls and snaps. Handler’s intervene with pet corrector and when they do Chase freezes and stares; he is only distracted by the other dog moving in the distance. He charges again but is leash is grabbed and he is removed from the yard. His finder reports similar behavior on the street stating when he notices other dogs he becomes stiff, crouches and lunges after them. The behavior team recommends not placing Chase into a home with other dogs as well as exercising caution when walking him on the street where he may encounter other dogs in passing.
