BEAHVIOR NOTE:
During an interaction today with a elderly woman her granddaughter and her great granddaughter Charlik had a very adverse reaction to the great grand child. Initially everything was fine. He allowed her to touch him and pet him but as soon as she opened her mouth to laugh, Charlik went off. He hard barked and growled and lunged. He responded well to correction but it definitely changed the potential adopters whole perspective of him. Had that child never opened her mouth we would have never known this behavior change. It went from 0 to 100 very fast.
INTAKE NOTE:
Charlik is a six year old white and black shih tzu, he was brought in to BACC as a stray on behalf of a family member. His owner was no longer able to care for him. He is described as shy, mellow, and protective.
Charlik has lived with one adult. He is fearful and shy around strangers and takes time to warm up to new people. He has not been around children, other dogs or cats. Client stated Charlik is not bothered when eating and eats dry food and is free fed. He is walked four times a day and will pull lightly while on leash.
Upon intake Charlik was tense and had a firm body he allowed all handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph.
SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Charlik previously lived with 1 adult. The family member stated Charlik is shy and fearful around strangers and take some time to warm up to new people. The family member describes Charlik as shy, mellow and protective.
At intake it was reported Charlik was tense and had a firm body posture, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Charlik came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Charlik was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Charlik was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Charlik appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
