I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 11/25/2016 from NY 11211, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/29/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 5. Dog becomes stiff and growls. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Charlie showed some concerns with the Tag portion of the assessment, and escalated to a growl in warning. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Charlie was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Charlie keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs. He runs away from a male that attempts to mount him. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/25/16 During his initial medical examination, Charlie appeared tense and bared teeth upon handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the warning signs Charlie has demonstrated in the care center, along with his discomfort with handling, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can further investigate these behaviors before placement into a permanent home. We recommend only force-free training as training with aversives or force increases the likelihood of future aggression. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
