08/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/21/16 12:30 Charlie was found in a park and brought to the ACC by police. She rode without a carrier in the car and police say she hopped right in the car when they asked her to. At the ACC, she was reluctant to get out of the car- she was sitting with her mouth open in the car and would sniff counselor’s hand, but when counselor pulled her leash to entice her out of the car she would growl and then go immediately back to mouth open when the counselor stopped pulling. An ACO came out to get her out of the car- she hopped right out for him when he pulled on the leash. Inside the ACC, she sniffed the dog that was brought in with her and around the office. She allowed for collaring.
08/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Dressed in a spotless cow print coat, Winona looks right at home amid the grass and clover of the great outdoors but she’s a city girl at heart and despite some initial timidity at the Care Center, her true home is wherever her friends are. Whether nestled in the arms of her human caretaker or happily hanging out with another pup in playgroup, Winona’s soft smile and shining eyes are a joy to behold (though I love her cute worried face too) and with just a little encouragement she’s ready to spread her special brand of sunshine far and wide. While not one to bound enthusiastically from her kennel, after a cautious start she trots eagerly down the street with perked ears and a high tail; sniffing about, taking care of all her business and making note of each dog we pass with adorable little come-play-with-me whines. She sits on command and sniffs treats and toys politely but makes it clear that modeling is not for her and whenever I catch her eyes they seem to plead for more action and less posing, please! Winona was found tied up in a park with Julius (A1086515), a handsome bluenose boy who might be her boyfriend and while he seems to be quite attached to her, this girl’s heart won’t be tied down and she’s open to all newcomers, large or small, greeting potential four-legged friends with the soft body language and calm good manners of a pro. In a dog-savvy home where she’ll be lavished with love and given the chance to transform into the social butterfly she was always meant to be, Winona is going to shine like a star.
08/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Winona came to the care center as a stray so her history in a home is unknown. Upon intake, she was nervous and growled, she allowed for collaring. On her relief walk, Winona walked nicely. When in the assessment room she appeared timid. She held the assessor’s gaze during Look, body a bit tense, tail down. During Sensitivity, she stood still, mouth closed, body a bit tense. For Tag, she followed at the end of the leash, tail low and wagging. She did not pull back her paw on either Squeeze attempt. She displayed minimal interest in the Toy away, sniffing it. When approaching another dog on leash at the care center, Winona approached with tail at spine level, body loose. The Behavior Team recommends that Winona be placed in an Experienced home. He would benefit from a slow approach and slow introduction and an initially quiet home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is low, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, tail low and wagging. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs toy. Dog to Dog: When approaching another dog on leash at the care center, Winona approached with tail at spine level, body soft.
08/23/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Winona approaches and offers polite greeting. When the greeter dog does not reciprocate inerest, she wanders away. Winona arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his/her behavior will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels that Winona could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction and slow introductions. 8/30: Winona engages in brief bouts of play, and offers correction hen her play partner becomes more exuberant.
