MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
09/19/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is EXPERIENCE, Weight 85.5 LBS.
Update: Charlie has displayed high levels of dog reactivity during his stay at the care centers; observed to growl, lunge, and bark towards other dogs while on leash, becoming over-aroused. Because Charlie has been difficult to manage in shelter on walks (unable to refocus easily once distracted by other dogs) placement should be sought as soon as possible in order to reduce Charlie’s level of frustration and prevent further rehearsal of this behavior. Force-free, reward based training is advised to assist in proper behavior modification/management.
08/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO

Basic information: Charlie is a large charcol gray & white neutered male 2yr old AMPBT mix the owner received as a gift from a friend and is being surrendered due to pet conflict. Charlie was last seen by a vet in May 2016. Socialization: Around strangers Charlie is friendly playful. Charlie Has lived with 2 children ages 6 and 20 years old, he is very playful around children and adults he does not know however he can play rough at times. Charlie has lived with other large Husky Rottweiler mix but they would often fight with each other over food and toys. Charlie does not like other dogs and if he sees one he will bark and lung at the dog. Charlie has never bitten anyone but has attempted to bite the dog in the home. Behavior: The owner stats that Charlie is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating (but will lunge and snap at dogs or other animals that touch his belongings), when someone takes his toys away or when someone disturbs him while sleeping. Charlie likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he approaches them in a friendly manor. The owner does not know how Charlie is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Charlie as friendly, affectionate and playful with a very high activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. In the home Charlie tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors during the day and in a yard at night. Charlie sleeps on the covered porch in the yard. Charlie was fed name brand wet dog food once a day. He is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. A volunteer writes: Charlie has lived with a 6 year old, and while he loves to play, may not always realize how big he is! He’s very housetrained, described as “friendly, affectionate and playful”, and fetch is his favorite game. I found out that his ‘guilty pleasure’ is a good old fashioned butt scratch, and you have to laugh at this big bruiser of a boy who turns to putty with a good rub! Charlie indeed showed off his housetraining skills the moment we were out the door, and we’re told only pulls on the leash when he’s excited. Charlie has been gorgeously taken care of, his weight perfect for his size, his coat lush and clean, and he’s friendly and social. We’re also told that he doesn’t mind when people touch his toys or food, but will snap at other animals who do. He loves baths and being brushed. A friendly boy with lively energy, Charlie is looking for a home in which he can be king of his castle. With his fun, friendly and living large personality his motto is ‘be all you can be’. You’ll enjoy time with Charlie– come meet him and you’ll see. A volunteer writes:This oh so handsome big boy has been with us before and I’m sad to see him back. Surrendered again by his owner as it seems that Charlie and the other resident dogs squabble over toys and food, Charlie is a big affable guy who although friendly is distracted as of this writing. Thrilled to be out for a walk to go potty ( he’s housetrained as advised by his former owner) he pulled hard on the leash but we’re told he only does that when excited, so his new person will need to decide whether a harness and/or some leash training is needed. Charlie has lived with kids and other dogs, and while he doesn’t mind when people touch his things, he prefers to keep them safe from other animals.Charlie enjoys baths and being brushed, is friendly with strangers, and loves playing fetch with his person. Charlie is looking for a home where he will be loved for the great dog he is. At intake he play bowed to staff showing everyone what a fun and fabulous dog he is. Charlie will need some time to decompress in his new home but he’s a proven people dog who just need the right people to love and cherish him.
09/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
8/17 Assessment Charlie pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Charlie was excitable jumpy, mouthy (moderate) but playful while playing tag. He became mouthy during the squeeze item with a moderate pressure. Charlie took the toy with a soft body language. According to Charlie’s first owner he has lived with two children ages six and twenty years old, he is very playful around children and adults though he can play rough at times. His former owner states that Charlie is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating (but will lunge and snap at dogs or other animals that touch his belongings.) He stated that Charlie is very reactive to other dogs and will lunge, growl, bark. Charlie is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. 05/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Although Charlie has displayed some social behavior toward dogs in the past while in our care, due to previous owner citing that Charlie may not be comfortble with other dogs in the home, the behavior department feels that Charlie should remain the only resident dog in a new home unitl this behavior can be followed up on appropriately outside the care center. When off leash with other dogs, Charlie avoids greeting. He becomes slightly tense when approached and walks away. 5/10 update: Charlie displays sexually motivated behavior. When corrected by the helper dog, be becomes more tense and contintues to follow behind her. 5/11 update: Charlie greets and briefly runs along with other playful (female) dogs. 5/12 update: Charlie engages briefly in soft play with playful female dogs. He becomes barrier reactive when another male dog passes by the play area. When a dog in the group becomes anxious and begins to run throughout the pen, he becomes highly aroused and begins to chase after her, tense and hackles raised. 5/13 update: Charlie greets and sniffs politely, jogging side-by-side with female dogs who are engaging in play. 5/14 update: Charlie attempts to solicit play but is unsure, often running alongside the other dogs and muzzle punching/mouthing at them. 8/15: Charlie greets with a neutral body. He sniffs the helper dog briefly, then roams away to seek handler attention.
