02/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Who’s got the power to melt hearts with a single hug? Who can wrestle laughter from the gloomiest day? Who brings grown men to their knees with just a smile? Who else but… Super Chapo! Soft, sweet and stunningly handsome, this wonderful bluenose baby has it all. He’s full of fun and bouncy energy yet gentle as a lamb, and great at following commands like ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘up’. No one has a softer mouth or more generous nature, and it’s a joy to spend time together playing with a toy or plying him with a tasty treat. Whether cavorting with volunteers in the yard, play bowing to other dogs in group, or greeting everyone he sees with the World’s Most Winning Smile, Chapo is the life of every party and the heart of any gathering. He’s a lover of adults and children alike and his previous owner described him as outgoing, affectionate, playful, confident, exuberant and excitable, a high energy boy that any family would be SO lucky to call their own. His Care Center fan club is growing by the minute and much as we love having Chapo here, we’d love it even more if he was cuddled up in his forever home instead. Having totally rocked his behavior assessment, he’s ready to leave as soon as you are, so why settle for less? Upgrade your life from ordinary to super, all it takes is a little Chapo!
02/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chapo pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Chapo was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Chapo was surrender to us. His previous owner described him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, pushy and excitable. He has a very high activity level. Around strangers Chapo is friendly and outgoing and when he plays with adults he is exuberant and somewhat rough. Around children he is playful and when he plays he is somewhat rough. He has not been around other dogs”. Chapo did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: Chapo engages in play when solicited; he will give some chase and offer a few play bows. He does attempt to mount a female when play ceases.
02/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Chapo loose and wiggly when interacting with female dogs (he has not yet been introduced to a male, but greets them well through a barrier). He will often mimic play style of the dogs he is interacting with but eventually he will attempt to mount (he is currently unaltered). His finder kept him in the home for a month, but Chapo did not interact with any dogs, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department feels that Chapo could go to a home with a playful female, but he should have a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with a male dog. Chapo greets well with loose body and wagging tail. He is polite and calm when he enters the pen but slowly begins to play more as the helper dog engages in more exuberant play. 2/9 update: Chapo engages in play when solicited; he will give some chase and offer a few play bows. He does attempt to mount a female when play ceases.
