A volunteer writes: “Fashion changes, but style endures.” Well Coco (if I might be so informal) certainly hit that nail on the head. Our 2 year-old Chanel is as lithe and petite as her namesake, and with the same effortless femininity to ensure she’s the talk of the town. Jewel tones, cool tones, yellows, reds, and blues — Chanel hits every look right out of the park, all complementing her buttercream coat. But this season’s hottest accessory is the megawatt smile, and should you be so lucky to spot Chanel’s, consider yourself charmed. When those ears go back, those eyes light up, and those delicious jowls start crinkling, I myself found it nearly impossible to keep a smile from my face. “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” With her white-glove manners and quiet demeanor, Chanel is high class all the way. She walks beautifully on leash, sits politely for treats, and also appears to be housebroken. Fabulous? To me a thousand times yes, but to ask Chanel today, she herself might not be certain. Like any beautiful, young girl still trying to find her way, Chanel remains a touch shy and a little bit unsure. At one point when I raise my hand too quickly, Chanel flinches and moves away. She collects herself of course, as any lady would, and quickly returns to my side. But now I’m the one uncertain. And rubbing her soft coat and eyeing her visible ribs, I sadly wonder about the life she’s led and the past she might have known. “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” Then Chanel is different in one million ways. She is demure and sweet, lovely and petite, classy, fabulous, and fine. Fashion changes, but style endures, as will your love for Chanel. So choose luxury, elegance, and timeless beauty today. And always choose Chanel. Chanel is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC.
06/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 6/22/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 6/22/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is tense, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: While Chanel initially has a loose body, she becomes tense with up close handling. She appears to try to move away from the handler when brought close. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Chanel has not been completely comfortable interacting with dogs in the care center. Most recently, she has begun to display interest in approaching and greeting other calm dogs. The behavior department recommends slow introductions to respectful dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Chanel allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/22/17 During her initial medical exam, Chanel was social and allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Chanel so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5): Due to Chanel’s response to some of the SAFER handling items, we feel she may be intimidated by small children. Older, gentle children should have an in depth interaction prior to adoption. Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Chanel has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is reaching over her. It is important to always go slow and give Chanel the option to walk away from any social interaction. Chanel should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Chanel’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Chanel may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment.
06/23/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
