02/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chance has shown a low threshold for arousal and potential for redirection onto his handler. He accepts treats in his kennel with a loose body but as soon as treats stop he begins to hard bark and whale eye. He was easy to leash and excited to come out, but once in the behavior room he became over-aroused and edgy, investigating and bounding around the room, and when called over to his handler he began jumping on and mouthing her. He grabbed ahold of a toy and began to shake and tear; when an audible interrupter was used to distract him so the toy could be removed, he redirected his attention onto the handler and began barking and “hugging” her leg. A different toy was used to trade for the torn one. Chance was returned to his kennel without further incident. Chance’s behavior appears to be deteriorating in the kennel environment, and it is in his best interest to move into a stable home where he can be provided with the level of physical exercise and mental stimulation he needs. Due to concerns with his rapid arousal and interaction with humans in this excited state, we recommend a home with experienced adopters and without children. 2/9 SAFER: Chance came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Chance had stiff body language when approach by the counselor, he allowed limited handling. During SAFER Chance came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social towards the assessor with a slow approach, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Chance was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on toy item Chance body was stiff when attempting to remove the item. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.
02/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Chance greets with a soft, lowered body. He is nervous around the handlers, keeping his eyes on us and maintaining a lowered head and distance. Chance does interact with the helper dog and becomes slightly sexually motivated. 2/10 update: Chance was much more relaxed today and greeted with a loose and soft body. He does engage in play and offers repeated play bows but shifts into being sexually motivated after a short time. Chance did not respect the other dog’s corrections of head whip and barks as she is moving away from him, he does however respond well to human interruptions.
