06/26/16 15:27 Champ is a eight year old black American Staff terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to personal problems owner is facing. He was with his owner since he was a few weeks old and was a gift from a friend. He is described as affectionate and protective. Champ has lived with two adults in his previous home. He is described as fearful and aggressive towards strangers. Owner stated he will bark and retreat if they approach him. He has spent time with one child age eight and is described as relaxed and respectful around the child he would engage in somewhat rough play with the child. He is described as friendly around female dogs and will sniff and wag his tail. Around male dogs he will sniff then bark and lunge according to owner. He has not been around cats. Champ is scared of loud noises and will bark if he hears fireworks. He is not bothered when his food is touched while eating and owner stated he loves water. He likes to be brushed and is fearful when his nails are trimmed. He will bark when a stranger approaches his home and will lunge and bark according to owner. Owner stated he is very protective and when someone approaches is owner he will lunge and bark. Champ’s activity level is described as medium and high and he lieks to play with balls and and chew toys. He has been kept only indoors and sleeps on the floor. He is very housetrained and will never have accidents indoors. He is walked twice a day and is used to short leashed walks. Owner stated he will pull very hard on leash. Upon intake Champ was tense and hard barked and lunged when cousnelor approached. Champ was scanned and collared with the assistance of his owner.

06/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD

Champ previously lived with two adults. The owner stated Champ is fearful and can be reactive towards strangers. The owner mentioned Champ has spent time with an 8 year old child and was described as relaxed and respectful towards the child. it was reported by the owner Champ is house trained and has a medium activity level. According to the owner Champ will bark and lunge if a stranger approaches the owner. At intake it was reported Champ was tense, hard barking and lunged at the counselor, all handling was conducted with assistance from the owner. During SAFER Champ came into the assessment room fearful and tense, he was a bit social towards the assessor with a slow approach. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Champ was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Champ was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Champ seems to be uncomfortable throughout the assessment and in the care center. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner Champ can be reactive around strangers; the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body a bit tense and lip licks. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with a female dog at the Care Center, Champ is a bit sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount. He listens to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen.
