04/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Think of an old movie with an elegant and understated lead actress – gorgeous, beautifully made up and coiffed, quiet and unassuming…..that’s how I picture our Ella. She’s stunning in her well groomed caramel and white coat, shy, quiet, happy to enjoy a treat and come close for some petting. Ella has an injury to her paw which is being treated by our vet and as she has a bandage on it I kept our time outside short. In our pen she gets a quick case of the zoomies, play bowing to me and briefly letting me see the silly side of her. (I picture that as an outtake in our serious movie classic.). Our elegant beauty is waiting to meet her new family and will be providing a script for an audition. (Kidding). She is lovely and is looking forward to going home – will it be with you?
04/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ella walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Ella was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Ella was not interested in toys. She approaches the helper dog with her tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Ella is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Ella is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long or neutral. Helper: A1068976
