01/29/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Cayenne, our red chili pepper! So cute! Lively, energetic, friendly and ready to be where the action is. Let’s par-tay with lots of toys! Cayenne loves toys, is able to amuse himself, and at one time was running around with two in his mouth at the same time! So cute! He’s likely housetrained and so smart. Ask him to sit and he plops his butt down and goes into an immediate down looking up expectantly for his treat. He’ll master new tricks in a jiffy with the promise of a good snack. Cayenne is looking for a fun, lively and active home and of course a toy box full of fun toys. Come meet him today!
01/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 1/23/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/25/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Jumps on Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Cayenne displayed no concerning behavior during his assessment. He was social throughout his assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Cayenne growls and hard barks at the greeter dog through the fence barrier. A muzzle is placed on Cayenne before the introduction is allowed to continue. The pen is opened and Cayenne wanders the yard while sniffing and marking his surroundings. The muzzle is removed. Cayenne continues to wander the yard. When the greeter dog approaches, he sniffs, body slightly tense with a high tail. He engages in chase after the greeter dog, though appears to get increasingly aroused. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/23/17 During his initial medical exam Cayenne was tense. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Cayenne so we cannot be certain of hi behavior in a home environment. Cayenne is a young, enthusiastic, social dog. He jumped up moderately on the assessor during the assessment. The jumping appeared to be aimed at getting closer to the assessor and soliciting attention. Cayenne will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his/her energy and enthusiasm.
01/24/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cayenne engages in running play with female dogs (he has not yet been introduced to a male dog) but can become over aroused during play. He also displays barrier reactivity (barking, growling) with a prolonged greeting. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends not placing Cayenne into a home with dogs until his behaviors can be followed up on. 1/24: Cayenne growls and hard barks at the greeter dog through the fence barrier. He engages in chase after the greeter dog, though appears to get inreasingly aroused. 1/25: Cayenne is introduced un-muzzled. He is polite when greeting. He becomes a bit vocal and aroused when engaging in running play, though is able to de-escalate himself.
