GONE 06/29/16 **NEW HOPE RESCUE ONLY**
A volunteer writes: Xena, Warrior Princess…. traveling around to fight evil. Our Xena is hardly a warrior, and we’re looking to restore her Princess status in a new home. Surrendered as her family is moving where she isn’t welcome, we’re told she’s friendly and outgoing, lived with young children and was gently playful with them, as well as with a Yorkie and a cat. Princess Xena doesn’t guard her stuff, and her owner loved how sweet and playful she is. She is housetrained to go on a special rug, but also pottied outside the moment we were out the door. Princess Xena is a beauty – her gorgeous chocolate milk color coat is lush and shiny. Her weight is perfect for her size, and it’s clear she’s been well taken care of. Although Xena didn’t like my treats she showed me her ‘sit’, came on my lap for a quick hug and then bounced away to explore our pen. Our lovely lady is looking for a new family to take care of; she’s a proven family dog without her family at the moment. Won’t you come meet her today?
MIDNIGHT – A1078415
GONE 06/28/16 A volunteer writes: With a coat as soft as velvet, and markings like the finest wood grain, Midnight wags his tail at me as I unlatched his door. Easily leashed we’re out the door where Midnight’s first priority is going potty (a lot!). His leash manners are lovely and we chat as we head to the park. Wagging his tail at kids and all the people passing, he’s easy and seems comfortable with a bit of park chaos on a warm afternoon. Midnight doesn’t mind being tethered, poses for pictures, takes treats gently and at one point lay down froggy style to enjoy an under the chin scratch. Alert, curious and friendly, Midnight surveys the park as we snuggle on the park bench, and we then snuggle some more in a quiet hallway where Midnight gives me lots of kisses! In group play Midnight greets politely and shows off his amorous side with the female helper dog until corrected. When our time together was over, Midnight hopped back into his kennel, giving me a smile and a wave of his tail. Easy to be with, sweet and oh so charming, he’s been gorgeously taken care of and his slender good looks are a feast for the eyes. Come meet him today.

BOLT – A1078307
GONE 06/26/16 **NEEDS A NEW HOPE RESCUE TO PULL****NEEDS ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET**** Poor Bolt, life is not how he thought it was going to be. Bolt is a 2 year old boy that was brought in as a stray so not much is known about him. What we do know is that he is very nervous and tense. To say that he did not do well on his evaluation would be an understatement. Sugar coating will not help this situation, Bolt needs someone who will work with him, give him boundaries, do the work his previous owner failed to do. This is doable, it is not impossible. Bolt has a lot of competition tonight, and the “difficult” ones are the first to go. Give Bolt a chance, help him live to see another day. Bolt will need to be pulled by a New Hope Rescue so he can receive the proper training and care. Share him before it is too late

MYDNITE – A1075650
GONE 06/23/16
A volunteer writes: Bright little Mydnite stole my heart before I even saw her sweet face and she has more character in one white-tipped toe than most people have in their entire body. When I found her kennel door fastened but no dog to be seen I was perplexed…until I noticed the pile of bedding was breathing! This shy genius had turned a simple sheet into a perfectly rolled ‘comfort burrito’ and in the time it took to burrow her face to the surface, I had already fallen head-over-heels in love. Owned by the same family since tender puppyhood, Mydnite is used to having plenty of familiar company nearby so it’s no surprise she’s feeling a little sad over having to sleep all on her lonesome and a bit overwhelmed by the strange new sights and sounds of the Care Center. She’s lived in gentle, playful harmony with kids and teens of all ages and as timid as she is in her den, once we walk to the yard and I show her a tennis ball the game is most definitely ON! Dashing, diving and leaping are all part of the fun as Mydnite runs to retrieve and then gets down to the very serious business of ‘skinning’ the ball as fast as possible. She doesn’t guard her toys or food and has no issues with me trying (and failing) to take the ball back or petting her while she chews and true to form, she shows off her ‘sit’ for treats and mouths each one with the gentle touch of a perfectly trained lady. She’s also well-versed in ‘come’, ‘stop’ and ‘let it go’ commands and walks nicely on leash, though she balks at venturing out the front door and prefers to stick to the yard instead which is fine by me–much more entertaining to watch! Mydnite really is a one-of-a-kind dog, a beauty with brains and so much heart, a proven family pet and the most loving, loyal companion for any experienced home. Mydnite is patiently waiting at our Manhattan Care Center, ask to meet her today and get ready to fall in love.

BLUE – A1066441

Please slow down and read, very carefully, the sad saga of how BLUE came to appear on tonight’s At-Risk List, because it’s a story of good intentions gone bad. The person Blue is missing the most, found him tied up outside of a pet store and took him home, according to those notes. Blue comes across as a dog who was probably very loyal to the person who brought him home, but the rest of the family may not have been as welcoming of him; there is talk of Blue being kept in a bedroom, for example, and as if he were not socialized as well as he maybe should have been. Blue’s presence in the home seems to have been linked to one, specific person being healthy and able to care for him…..and when that was no longer the case, Blue wound up at the ACC. This loyal young boy earned a New Hope rating from the ACC and tomorrow, while he frantically looks for the one face that means the world to him, the ACC will cause him to leave this world forever. That sad ending can only be averted if a New Hope rescue is able to save Blue for a responsible, trustworthy foster/adopter, tonight!
STITCH – A1074876
GONE – 06/13/16
**THIRD TIME ON LIST!**A volunteer writes: Stitch is completely adorable. She is all black, with 2 toes on each of her back feet that are white. Stitch came to the shelter as a stray and no one has come to claim her, so now she is hoping to be be adopted. Stitch likes people a lot, and absolutely loves water (as you can see from the picture)!!! Stitch is a low-to-medium energy dog who walks wonderfully on leash and seems to be house trained. If your looking to add Stitch to your family please come to Staten Island ACC and meet her.
