I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 01/30/2017 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

01/30/17 13:20 Cassidy is a 5 year old Male American Pitbull Terrier Mix; He came in as Stray by the finder who stayed with him for one day. Cassidy has no known health issues or injures. Vet history is unknown. When the finder approached Cassidy he was very friendly and leaped onto the finder’s lap. While in the finder’s home he was around the finder’s 12 year old niece. He was very friendly, but is very exuberant and attempts to jump on the child whenever, she has food in her had. During bathing the finder stated that Cassidy tries to jump out of the tub. During his stay he was feed dry food. Cassidy is not house trained and has had multipple accidents in the home. However he does know commands like sit and he does not pull hard on leash. During intake Cassidy was very playful displaying a soft wiggly body, when the counselor approached him. While in the admission office he sniffs around and tried to jump on the counselor lap. A photo was taken and Cassidy was collared with no issue.

Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Cassidy has had accidents in the home Energy level/descriptors: Finder describes Cassidy as friendly and engages in exuberant play. Other notes: During intake Cassidy was very playful displaying a soft wiggly body. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/1/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1:1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is tense. Summary: Cassidy was friendly and social towards the assessor, though became tense upon approach when engaged with his toy item. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Cassidy initially chose to ignore the other dogs and kept to himself as he explored the pen. With further playgroup sessions, Cassidy has become slightly more social with the other calm male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Cassidy be placed in a home with dogs that match his calm sociability. 1/31: Cassidy displays loose and wiggly body language when greeting a novel female dog. He mostly ignores the other dog and seeks handler interaction. When the female greets him face to face, Cassidy is initially tolerant but will low growl when she is persistent and will walk away. 2/1: When greeting a novel male dog, Cassidy displays soft body language. He only sniffs the other dog briefly before seeking handler interaction and exploring the pen. 2/2: Cassidy is slightly more social in a group of calm dogs.
