09/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cassidy came to the shelter as a stray so her behavior in a home is unknown. Upon intake, Cassidy growled and snapped at the counselor. She walked well on leash for her relief walk. In the assessment room, Cassidy appeared fearful, shaking and trembling. She held the Assessor’s gaze for Look, tail tucked, body trembling and tense. She moved away for Sensitivity, lip licking, tense, tail tucked. For Tag she followed, fearful. She pulled her body away during Squeeze, so Flank was attempted. She did not respond to either Squeeze attempt on Flank, body tense and tail tucked. She displayed no interest in the Toy. The Behavior Team recommends that Cassidy be placed in an Experienced adult only home. Cassidy would benefit from a slow approach and slow introduction, as well as an initially quiet home environment where she can have time to acclimate to her surroundings. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is tucked. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low, fearful. Flank squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1. No interest. 9/8 update: Cassidy is not thriving in the busy adoptions room, continuing to nip when picked up and to growl when approached. She did not show any red flag behaviors on the aggression assessment but due to the behavior she has shown when being handled in the care center, and in the interest of decreasing her stress and preventing rehearsal of undesired behaviors, we recommend that she move into a stable home environment quickly.
