A volunteer writes:

EARS! I’ll admit it. 3 year-old Cash has me feeling positively batty. That shiny, black coat, that little, pouty face, that tiger tail, those toes, and EARS! (Oops sorry.) On a recent day Cash is quiet in his kennel, laying low, just waiting for an invitation out for a walk. Me? I feel like I’ve just won the jackpot as soon as I spot him, and in minutes we’re off for some fun in the snow. From the moment his paws hit the yard Cash transforms into a shiny snow bunny, a raven on ice. He springs back and forth, exploring every icy corner, but returns to me quickly when I beckon him back with treats. Speaking of treats, Cash takes them gently, pushing his wet (and cold!), gorilla nose sweetly into my palm for more. Cash joins us at the shelter as his family is expecting a new baby. Of course there was a time when Cash himself was the baby of the family, knowing only one home for all of his 3 years. He is said to have lived well with a young child and another small dog. He is reportedly housebroken, and described as playful, social, and bright. As Cash weaves himself between my legs I spot a mischievous glint in his eye. A knowing grin, a tiny smirk, as if there’s a secret inside that handsome head. I reach out to pet him, to rub those magnificent ears I’d been admiring all along. But just as I do Cash darts playfully away, trotting off boldly in the snow, stopping only to look back at me with another grin, this one taunting. “Catch me outside!” He seems to say. And naturally, I oblige him. How ’bout that? Cash is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
Another volunteer writes:   He’s a little guy in a shining black coat with ears up to there and a playful, sweet personality.   His coat is so shiny that when the sun hits, it throws off copper and gold highlights.   Stunning!  Don’t let his serious face fool you, as under that serious mask is a playful fun boy who lights up at the sight of a tennis ball, hops after it, and retrieves!!!! all with a wagging tail. Active, fun and friendly, Cash is looking for a lifetime of tennis balls, fun and love.  Cash is his name with love and fun being his currency.   Come meet him today, and we’ll  send him home with a tennis ball or two or three.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:

Summary

PLAYGROUP:

Cash engages in soft play with male and female dogs of varying sizes but is uncomfortable with dogs that have a rougher or more exuberant play style. His owner cites he “lived with a smaller breed dog and was relaxed with the dog. He enjoyed going to the dog park and played well with other dogs.” The behavior department feels that Cash could succeed in a home with another dog who is playful but gentle and respectful.

3/17: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs, Cash engages in bouts of bouncy play.  He offers correction when uncomfortable with overly mouthy or exuberant play.

3/18: Cash interacts with male and female dogs of all sizes. He engages in bouts of bouncy play but offers correction when play becomes more exuberant.

3/19-24: Cash engages in gentle play with other dogs.  He offers correction when solicited with rougher play.

3/24: Cash is uncomfortable with interaction and seeks attention from handlers.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:

During his initial medical exam Cash allowed handling

ENERGY LEVEL:

Cash’s previous owner reports a high activity level, which matches what we have seen in the care center. Cash is a young, enthusiastic, social dog. Cash will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
