01/22/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I just love to see a wonderful dog come into his own, and after a few rough days adjusting to the loss of his family, handsome Cash is king once more. Who got high scores on his behavior assessment? Cash did! Who loves to give hugs and kisses? Cash does! Who wants to make friends with all the dogs? You know it’s Cash! He’s such a social boy and not used to life in a kennel so the minute I approach he’s like a little kid desperately waving his raised hand, and I’m treated to vocalizing and nose-nudged-through-the-door hinting… Pick me! Pick me! Pulling slightly on leash but responding nicely to my voice, Cash hits the street sniffing and quickly takes care of his business before heading north to the park like he knows exactly where we’re going. He’ll chase a tossed stick or a ball but never guards his prize and lets me take it from his mouth with ease and he really puts the gentle in gentleman, standing up for hugs with me and anyone else who’ll have him. Described as ‘affectionate, playful and energetic’ by his former owner, Cash has lived in happy harmony with two big dogs and we’re told he loves kids of all ages too. Sometimes shy when first getting to know strangers, he’s a great family dog, and in loving hands he warms up very quickly. Once Cash claims you as a friend, you’re in for life! Now that he’s aced his assessment, Cash is ready to leave for his new forever home just as soon as you say the word, so….is that a yes?

01/14/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cash was initially fearful when entering the care center; he was anxious in the yard and gave a low growl when the handler approached. However, he has become more comfortable, approaching handlers seeking attention, and engaging in rough, running play with male and female dogs. He lived with two large dogs and his owner reports that he was playful with them. When Cash would notice other dogs outside, he would observe them and attempt to approach. Based on this information, and the time Cash needed to become comfortable here, the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction as well as giving Cash time to acclimate before being introduced to the resident dog. When off leash with other dogs, Cash ignores greeting from the helper dog. He roams the pen, and offers a low growl when approached by a human handler. 1/19: Cash ignores the female helper dog. He is a bit anxious and begins to run throughout the yard without engaging with the other dog. 1/20 update: Cash runs through the yard and will engage briefly in play when the other dog seeks out interaction. 1/21: Cash is forward when greeting a calm, female dog. He is pushy when attempting to solicit play and ignores correction from the other dog. When introduced to a playful male, Cash runs throuhout the yard and becomes overaroused and vocal while interacting.
