06/04/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I may be dating myself, but I remember playing with a little hand toy which, when you pressed a button, collapsed, or a tongue came out or something. Carlos reminded me of that toy because when his mouth was closed, his ears were forward; when his tongue came, out his ears went back. So funny, and as hard as I tried I could not get ears and tongue in the same picture! Carlos is a stunning dog — his coat lush and gleaming, and his freckled chest match his freckled feet! Seriously — a designer could not have done better in putting this gorgeous dog together. He’s quiet in his kennel, goes potty outside, and while he pulled on the leash until he found that perfect spot, once he ‘went,’ he’s great on leash. He’s best walked on a short leash, and he walked right by my side. Carlos gives amazing stand up hugs. His eyes meet mine as we silently communicate. Carlos is the quiet type, yet loving and easy, happy to come when I call him and put his paws in my lap for a hug. He seems to do well with other dogs, greeting dogs in adjoining pens with a soft wave of his tail, and in group play session, greets appropriately and responds to the helper dog’s correction if needed. Gentle, calm, soft, loving, and well behaved, our behavior team feels he’ll do well with a person or family with average dog experience, who will give him time to adjust to his new environment. My guess is that with love, it won’t take long at all. He’s awesome and waiting to show you just how much! Another volunteer writes: I love this big lug! He’s playful, fun, loves to chase a ball letting me take it right out of his mouth, and gives the best hugs EVER. Paws on my shoulders, he cuddles his head under my chin, or leans his big head against my nose, whichever way he makes it happen he’s the snuggle meister!! Carlos has been doing great in playgroups with both males and females, engaging in brief bouncy play. So, if hugging and playing is your ‘thing’, you shouldn’t miss the chance to meet our oh so very handsome Carlos today!!

Carlos approaches and greets politely, and at times has engaged briefly in bouncy play. It has been observed that Carlos has become sexually motivated and attempts to mount female dogs, however, he is currently unaltered. He ceases when the helper female offers correction. 5/31 update: Carlos offers a few sniffs, then roams around. 6/1 update: Carlos greets, and appears to be a bit sexually motivated. 6/2 update: Carlos becomes a bit playful and bouncy when interacting in a pen with female dogs, then loses interest and begins to roam. 6/3 update: Carlos is polite when greeting males and females, engages in brief play. 6/4 update: Carlos greets and continues to sniff the other dog then begins to whine when she will not engage in play with him.
