08/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Carlisle came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Carlisle came into the assessment room calm he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted with a slow approach. Carlisle was fearful during the tag interaction; and during the resource portion of the assessment. Although Carlisle interacted with the assessor; he did have an uncomfortable body posture throughout the assessment but did not escalate further. Carlisle appears to be sociable, but a slow approach is recommended to give him time to warm up to the potential adopter, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Experience” adopter. We also recommend a home without young children, who may intimidate Carlisle. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back, and a bit fearful. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in a downward position a bit fearful. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Carlisle is nervous as he greets the other dog. He is tolerant of her greeting but mostly keeps to himself as he explores the pen.
