02/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/10/16 15:01hrs Carina sat calmly and quiet near her finder. She would sniff a hand or anyone that approaches her. She would shrink her head away and her body would shudder when touched. She was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed without displaying any aggressive behavior.
02/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Carina may look Very Serious but trust me, behind her worried expression lies the heart of an affectionate puppy just aching to share her love with the world. Found with her equally cute sisters Cherish (A1064841) and Cardyn (A1064842), Carina definitely wins the prize for wrinkliest, smooshiest face, and though a bit shy at first, she might just be the friendliest too. She’ll chase but not retrieve a ball, and when the treats come out she’s literally all over me (in the nicest way!), smart enough to spot where they’re coming from, and nuzzle her face deep into my pocket for more. Carina walks well on leash, seems to be house trained and is curious about the world around her, but mostly she just wants to be where the people (and the snuggles) are. She’s less comfortable with meeting other dogs, so proper introductions to any new four-legged friends are essential. Carina seems to have led quite a sheltered life, but she has so much to give, and with a gentle hand to reassure her as she makes her debut, this gorgeous gal is going to shine like a star.
02/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
2/20 Update: Carina is showing an increased level of reactivity to other dogs that is making her difficult to handle. She will bark and snap at dogs walking past her kennel and will pull toward them, barking, when being walked through the shelter. On one occasion another dog in her room began lunging and snapping at her through the kennel. Carina began pulling and barking toward him and when she was pulled away she jumped up and nipped at the sleeve of a handler. She will maintain a heightened level of arousal even after dogs have walked past her kennel, so when attempting to remove her, she will continue barking at the kennel and nips at fingers that near the kennel bars. The behavior department feels that Carina could go to an experienced adopter. 2/12 SAFER: Carina walks calmly on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Carina was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Carina allows greeting before going off to explore the yard.
