07/14/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/14/17 14:51 Basic Information Cannoli is a two year old, brown-brindle large dog. She was found tied to a water hydrant yesterday and took her home. Finder stated that Cannoli is a bit shy upon meeting strangers but that she is the sweetest dog he has ever met. Cannoli has what appears like a growth in her left eye lid and around her neck/shoulder region. Behavior During Intake Cannoli had a stiff body and looked away when counselor approached her. Her ears where down and her tail was doing but wagged slightly. She withdrew and tried to hide behind finder. Counselor had owner collar her but she allowed counselor to photograph and place her in a kennel.
07/22/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Looking like she’s eaten one too many cannolis, Miss Cannoli is delightfully, sweetly, and deliciously pleasantly plump. Happy to come out for a walk, Cannoli potties immediately, and then wags her way down the street as we head out. Looking up at everyone we pass in an easy way, she pulls a bit on leash in her happiness at exploring the day. Off leash, she’s in for some cuddles, closes her eyes as I stroke her face, and again wags her tail as she explores. There’s a theme here: gently tail waggy, sweet, sweet, sweet, and so easy to be with. Cannoli is at that perfect age, old enough to know better, and young enough to enjoy life and love. Let’s show her that the best things are yet to come. Another volunteer writes: One of my all-time favorite desserts now comes in adorable doggie form and this chunky lovebug is even more delicious than her namesake! Ask any volunteer or staffer who’s met her and you can bet they’ll agree–there’s no such thing as too much Cannoli. One visit is not enough and I’ve been enjoying second and third helpings of her shy snuggles, gentle nature and quiet company ever since the day we first fell in love. Her easy-going leash manners and great house training skills make for a leisurely street walk and off leash in the yard she’s equally happy to come when called for petting, food (mine is apparently not up to her standards), a slow-paced game of follow-the-leader or to simply mosey off and explore on her own. When another pup stops by the adjacent pen Cannoli noses through the gate with friendly curiosity but she can be very timid around strangers and will need a slow and steady approach when it comes to learning how to be with other dogs. The dog run is not for her, this gal was made for the lap! If a long walk through the park followed by yummy snack sharing and some laid-back couch snuggles sounds like your idea of the perfect evening then your date is definitely here. Hurry in to our Manhattan Care Center to enjoy a not-so-little sweet treat today, Cannoli’s all dressed up and ready to go!

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Cannoli so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center, she displays a medium level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_Single dog home/no dog parks: See PLAYGROUP. _X_No young children (under 5): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Cannoli may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. Older, respectful children should have an in-depth interaction prior to adoption. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Cannoli is fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Cannoli the option to walk away from any social interaction. Cannoli should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Cannoli’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Cannoli would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
