A Volunteer writes : The kissing booth is now open and Cali’s ready to smooch! This chunky sweetheart is all about snuggles and her favorite place to be is nuzzled into your side or standing with her paws on your lap for kisses, the closer the better. She’s a little shy of the leash and being pet on her head but walks well once the rope is on, stopping to take care of her business along the way and meeting other dogs with enthusiastic tail wags. Free in the yard she ignores toys and treats in favor of more cuddling and doggie socializing and I can just imagine her starring front and center in any family photos or videos, Cali always wants to be where the action is! Surrendered to our care when her people moved somewhere she wasn’t welcome, Cali has lived with 3 children aged 5, 8 and 12 and a tiny Pug puppy and was relaxed and playful with all and we’re told she has no issues sharing her food or possessions either. At home she spent her days in games of fetch and tug, following her owner around whenever she could and going for twice daily walks and at night she slept curled up in an open crate. Though she’s feeling a little stressed at the Care Center, Cali is normally a ‘playful, confident and excitable’ companion and she’d make a loyal and loving addition to almost any experienced home. In the world according to Cali every person and especially every dog she meets is a friend and with a smile as bright as the sun and a heart as big as an ocean, I can’t imagine a better place to while away this summer and many more to come than with beautiful Cali by your side.

PROFILE :

Basic information:
Cali is a 1 year old American Pit Bull terrier. She was bought from a breeder when she was a puppy. She was surrendered because her previous owner is moving and isn’t allowed pets. The last time she went to the vet was 6 months ago. She has no known injuries or health problems.
Socialization;
Around strangers Cali is friendly and outgoing and when she plays with adults she is exuberant but sometimes rough. She lived with three children ages 5, 8 and 12. Around them she was relaxed and playful and when she played she was gentle. She also lived with a 3 month old pug. With him she was relaxed and playful and exuberant at play. She has not been around cats.
Behavior:
Cali has never attempted to bite a person or animal. If her food bowl was touched while eating she continued to eat with a relaxed body. She was friendly if a toy or treat was taken from her. She was taught not to go on furniture. She isn’t bothered if she is held, restrained or disturbed while sleeping. When given a bath she would try to get away but tolerated baths. She isn’t bothered if her paws are touched. She barks if someone unfamiliar approached the home or her previous owner but was friendly after a few minutes.
For a New Family to Know:
Cali is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, pushy and excitable. She has a medium activity level and her previous owner loved how affectionate she is. When her previous was home she would follow him around. She liked to play with balls and her favorite games were fetch and tug. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept in her crate with an open door. She ate dry Blue buffalo. She is house trained and rarely has accidents. She used a wee wee pad indoors. She is well behaved when left alone indoors. She understands the cues stop and no. She went for brisk walks 2 times daily. On leash she pulls lightly and off leash she stays close by.
Behavior during intake:
While her owner was here Cali barked three times with crouched body but wagging tail when I approached her to scan for a microchip. She sniffed me and allowed me to pet her after her owner was gone, she flinched when I pet her head.
