03/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cain previously lived with 1 adult, a small dog, a cat and has lived with children of all ages. The owner stated Cain is relaxed and plays gentle towards the children. The owner mentioned Cain is relaxed and plays gentle towards the cat and the small dog in the household. The owner describes Cain as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, mellow, and excitable. It was reported by the owner Cain is house trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Cain was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Cain came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Cain joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Cain was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Cain approached the gate to greet the helper dog with a tense body posture and closed mouth. He walked away several times, and then on one more approach he barks and lunges at the gate. Cain was displaying mixed body language, regardless we felt for safety reasons we should muzzle him before being introduced off leash. Unfortunately Cain was very difficult to muzzle and thrashed so much he was able to rip it partially off. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and a thorough dog to dog interaction before being placed into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
