07/24/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/24/16 13:49 BASIC INFO Caesar is a male APBT / American Bulldog mix, about 8 months old. His family bought him from his previous owner when he was 1-2 months old. They relinquished him due to lack of time to care for him. Caesar spent almost all of his time tethered to a pipe in the corner of a children’s room on a 4′ chain. SOCIALIZATION Caesar is friendly/outgoing with new people. He lived with a 10 year old child and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with her. He plays exuberantly with people. He is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with dogs he meets at the dog park. BEHAVIOR Caesar doesn’t mind storms. His owner reports that when they approach him while he’s eating, he hovers, growls, and eats quickly. He allows them to pick it up when it’s empty. He hovers and growls when they approach him with a bone. He doesn’t mind if they take his rubber ball. Caesar doesn’t mind being held/restrained, or woken up. He’s nervous and tries to jump out of the tub during baths. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Caesar’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He tries to follow them. He plays with a rubber ball. He plays chase. He lived inside and slept on the floor in his corner. He ate dry and wet Purina puppy chow. He was rarely walked and was never given wee-wee pads, so he pottied in his corner where he was tethered, on the floor. He often ate his feces. He would chew wires and the handle to his chain while alone or with his family home. He also whined when his family was home. Caesar was learning to sit when asked. He went for brisk walks and pulled on his leash. INTAKE While with his family during his intake, Caesar had a soft, relaxed body. He became loose and wiggly with a wagging tail while I pet him, scanned him (-), fed him treats, checked his teeth, and collared him. He was soft-bodied and had a wagging tail and sat for his picture. He whined by the door a little but then followed us and often sat and looked up at us. He wagged his tail whenever we looked at or talked to him. He jumped up and leaned against us while we pet him. We gave him a stuffed toy and he bounced around and play-bowed with it.

A volunteer writes: And the award for the cutest, smartest, most adorable puppy on the planet goes to…………..drum roll please…………Caesar! A big, important name for this little guy, Caesar is beyond adorable, posing for pictures, going potty outside, and simply being a wiggly, playful affectionate puppy who’s a joy to be with. Wiggle, wiggle in his kennel means can I come out to play, let’s have some fun! Caesar loved playing with a soft toy, sat at my feet as I took some notes, took treats gently after showing me his sit, and we just hung out together. Caesar was surrendered as his family didn’t have time for him, and we’re told that he spent much of his time tethered to a pipe on a 4′ chain in the children’s room. He plays well with people and children, loves to play with dogs at the dog park, and played nicely with dogs here in playgroup. Caesar was rarely walked, doesn’t like baths, and didn’t like people near his food while he ate. It’s clear his former family didn’t make time for him, and little Caesar is hoping you’ll make up for all that. He’s remarkably friendly and engaging, an absolute delight who is looking for structure, training, love and a new best friend. Who is going to be the lucky person or family that shows Caesar what being a cherished companion is all about?

Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
7/25: When off leash with other dogs, Caesar displays submissive behaviors when greeted, low body wagging tail, muzzle licking. He begins to engagein soft play when solicited. When greeting dogs who are less comfortable, Caesar does not yet respond to correction from the other dog. Caesar’s previous owner cites that he “plays exuberantly with dogs he meets at the dog park” . It is unknown how his behavior around dogs will translate into a home. The behavior team feels that Caesar may be placed into a home with another playful dog, however we recommend separating feeding times due to previous owner reports about Caesar’s potential posessiveness over food or rawhide.
