Butta came into the shelter as a stray so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Butta was friendly and enjoys lots of petting and shows affection by licking the counselor. He allowed all handling. During SAFER Butta was extremely friendly and affectionate towards the assessor he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor; he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Butta was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Butta was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Butta appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, mouths leash in a playful manner . Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.

Butta was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 9/8: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Butta greets the female dog displaying slightly stiff body language. He is social, continually greeting the other dog, and displays slightly bouncy body language as the session continues.
