05/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/10/16 09:31 Basic Information: Butch is a 12 year old American pit bull terrier/ labrador mix who was surrendered because his previous owner passed away. Socialization: Around strangers Butch is friendly, outgoing and doesn’t play with adults. Butch has neevr been around children, or other dogs so it is unknown how he will react to them. Butch has been around one other cat and was relaxed around him. Butch has no behavior issues and isn’t bothered by loud sounds. Butch’s previous caretaker did not attempt to push/pull him off of the furniture or trim his nails so it is unknown how he will react to those events. Butch is not bothered by anyone touching his food or bowl while he was eating, taking a treat or toy/ object away, being given a bath, being brushed or being held/restrained. For a New Family to Know: Butch is described as: friendly: affectionate, playful, shy, confident, mellow, and excitable with a medium activity level. Butch’s favorite activity is running around. When at home Butch will follow around his owner and stay in his favorite spot. Butch likes to play with balls, stuffed toys, and squeaky toys. Butch enjoys playing fecth and tug. Butch had a free choice with a door for going indoors and outdoors. Butch was fed dry food from the brand pedigree twice a day. Butch is house trained and rarely has any accidents. WHen left alone at home Butch is well behaved. Butch knows the commands sit and stay. Butch enjoys running and playing in the yard. Butch doesn’t pull on a leash. Butch will go to the bathroom anywhere outside. Intake Behavior: Butch was a litte nervous during his intake but warmed up to staff and allowed them to collar, scan for a microchip and take pictures with no signs of aggression.

05/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The first time I took Butch out I offered him a treat when we got into the yard, and he stood in the same spot, holding it in his mouth, for at least a minute. It looked like a little tongue. He doesn’t need a treat that isn’t to his liking to make funny faces — he has a whole repertoire of them…what a quirky, cute man! When I offer him treats that he does like, he takes them nicely and chews them slowly. He walks slowly, too, but wags his tail as we make our way around the block. He needs a little help getting in and out of his cage, but trusts me enough to let me pick him up. He sometimes has conversations with the dogs across from him, and has previously cohabitated with a cat! He seems housebroken and might need a few minutes to warm up, but once he does, seems to love getting petted and just having company. I’ll admit, I initially fell for him because he was sad looking, old and bony. But now I find myself sort of infatuated with him because while he is old and bony, I don’t think he’s done going on adventures just yet! What a privilege it would be to try and figure out the stories he has to tell and to help him write new ones. First up, the trip from Brooklyn ACC to his new home!

05/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1072027 Butch previously lived with 1 adult. The owner stated around strangers Butch is friendly, outgoing and doesn’t play with adults. The owner mentioned Butch has been around one other cat and was relaxed around him. The owner describes Butch as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, confident, mellow, and excitable. It was reported by the owner Butch is house trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Butch was a little nervous but warmed after a few minutes, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Butch came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Butch was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Butch was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Butch appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog but barks and wags his tail. Then turns and exit.
