04/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Buma came to us as an owner surrender on 4/15/16. According to the owner Buma is very shy and fearful of strangers. He is walked with a muzzle on so that Buma doesn’t become too fearful and have an opportunity to bite someone. Buma did come to us with a previous bite history, reportedly biting the owner’s nephew because the nephew was too scared of Buma. Since in the shelter, handlers have been unable to remove Buma from his kennel even when attempting with treats. Buma can be seen in the kennel with very stressed and fearful body language. He has trembling and stiff body language. When stepping closer to his kennel Buma will growl and raise his lip exposing his teeth. When in front of him in the kennel Buma charge the kennel and attempt to bite through the kennel toward the handler. Due to this behavior, stress level concerns, and safety concerns Buma will not receive a SAFER assessment. Buma was very nervous, tense and attempted to bite during his medical exam as well. We recommend Buma go with a New Hope partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification before placement into a stable environment.
