07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bugsy previously lived with adults and children ages 6 and 14 years old. The owner stated Bugsy did not interact with strangers and when around the children, he is relaxed and playful towards the children. The owner mentioned Bugsy lived with a yorkie and was relaxed and playful towards him. The owner describes as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable and aloof. It was reported by the owner Bugsy is house trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Bugsy did not interact with the counselor, he went to medical. During SAFER Bugsy came into the assessment room calm and fearful, he was not interested with the assessor. Not all Handling items were able to be conducted as Bugsy growled and tried to bite at the assessor on the first paw squeeze item. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body tense with his mouth closed. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body low with his tail tucked and lip licks. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes and tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bugsy is nervous, greeting the other dog with a tucked tail. He is tolerant of the female dog’s persistent greeting but mostly displays look-aways when she approaches.
