Behavior:
Helper dog: A1067680
Buddy previously lived with 1adult and children ages 6 to 14 years old. The owner stated Buddy plays with children and adults very gently. The owner mentioned while eating if someone goes to touch Buddy’s food bowl he will growl. The owner describes Buddy as affectionate and anxious. It was reported by the owner buddy is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone.
At intake it was reported Buddy was tense, he did not any handling from the counselor. During SAFER Buddy came into the assessment room tense and timid with hard eyes. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Buddy bared his teeth and growled at the assessor when attempting to touch him. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Buddy does not approach, but instead turns his body to the side and exits. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits.
