03/15/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/15/16 14:00 Buddha is a 7 year old pit bull mix. The former owner got Buddha from a friend. She had him for almost 6 years. The former owner brought Buddha to MACC because she could no longer care for him. Socialization: Buddha is a fairly shy dog. It takes him a few days to get comfortable. He can be playful at times but for the most part he is pretty calm. Once he is familiar he can be tolerant of children but it may be best for him to go to a home without kids. Buddha was very comfortable with Rhubarb and pretty comfortable with most other dogs. He does not like cats. Behavior History: This dog has never bitten another animal or person. He is very well house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. During thunder storms or fireworks he does cry a little. If someone touches his food bowl while he is eating he might growl. He does not love getting a bath but he will sit for it. He was normally walked at least three times a day so his need for nail trims was few and far between. If someone comes close to him or a family member he might bark. For a new family to know: Buddha is described as shy, affectionate and mellow. His activity level is pretty low. When his owner is home he likes to be in the same room most of the time. He doesn’t play many games but he loves a good chew toy. He has been kept indoors mostly. This dog eats wet and dry food. When he is left alone at home Buddha is very well behaved. He has not been crated in years but he is crate trained. He knows how to sit on command. Buddha is pretty easy to walk. He does not pull on his leash. He will stay close to his owner. He is a great dog and he needs a great home!

03/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Buddha’s previous owner notes that he is a shy dog who needs a significant amount of time to warm up to new people. He is described as comfortable with most other dogs, but though he is tolerant of children it would be best for him to go to a home without kids and also without cats. He has no bite history but has shown some mild food bowl guarding behavior in the home, growling if his food bowl is touched while he is eating. His previous owner describes him as shy, affectionate, and mellow, with a low activity level. Buddha allowed handling for his medical examination but was tense and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, he does not appear to be acclimating well to the shelter environment or to his new caretakers, and he did not allow handling for the SAFER aggression assessment. 3/18 SAFER: Buddha pulls a bit on the leash. He did not show any social behavior, Buddha attempted to get away from the handler. When the behavior team tries to collar him he was panting rapidly and suddenly closes his mouth, make a direct eye contact, corner of mouth pulled back, his hair raise along Buddha back. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment. During the resources Buddha was not interested in toys. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Buddha is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: Due to the inability to place a playgroup colalr on Buddha (Buddha flinches away from attempt to touch), he has not been introduced off leash with another dog. When greeting through a barrier, Buddha begins to whine with a slightly tense body and high wagging tail.
