07/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Hey, let’s go for a walk! Wanna rub my belly? I like treats too, and I pose really well for pictures.” And with this short conversation Bubbles (all my friends have nicknames) and I became friends! Stunningly gorgeous in her shiny black coat, perfect figure and fun personality, Bubbles was found tied to a gate with her friend Big Redd (A1082933). Showing off her housetraining skills the moment we were out the door, we head to the park, Bubbles wagging her tail at everyone we pass. She pulls on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training, but once in the park she lay down on the grass froggy style (just love that), to observe all the activity. Her tail wags as she lies there, she gives me a big grin and flops over for a belly rub. It’s photo shoot time and she poses like a pro, makes serious eye contact and from time to time flashes her fabulous grin, taking treats gently as she wags her tail. Bubbles and I watch other dogs pass by but she doesn’t pull towards them, simply watches. In her first group play she solicited play from the helper dog and engages in “pushy play”. Joining me on the park bench for some cuddles, Bubbles is so friendly and so gentle and tail waggy she’s a delight to spend time with. Hopping right back into her kennel when it was that time she saluted me with a big grin and a happy tail wag. Social and fun, and clearly well taken care of, Bubbles is hoping you’ll come meet her soon.
07/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bubble Yumm pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Bubble Yumm did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction and was a bit difficult to distract her. She took the toy with a soft body language. Bubble Yumm show a bit of concern during the tag interaction becoming a bit over aroused, slow to de-escalate. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Bubble Yumm solicits and engages in pushy, exuberant play.
07/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bubble Yum engages in bouncy, running play with both male and female dogs. She arrived at the care center with a large, male dog, but as a stray, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department feels that Bubble Yumm could go to a home with another playful, social dog. 7/28: When off leash with other dogs, Bubble Yumm solicits and engages in pushy, exuberant play. 8/3: Bubble Yumm plays exuberantly with males and females. She responds well to correction from other dogs who are not comfortable with play. 8/5 update: Bubble Yumm greets politely but only engages in soft play. She will offer correction to a pushy, mouthy male.
