RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced Adult Home only _X_No children (under 13) Due to the behavior Bubba showed over his food bowl in his previous home (growling) we recommend a home without children. Bubba has also been reported to lunge/growl at children on walks; Owner reports Bubba growled/hard stared at his child upon approaching Bubba for petting. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (See known history) _X_Resource guarding (See notes above and Known History section) _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration (See known history)
11/13/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/13/16 09:16 BASIC INFO Bubba is a 7 month old male APBT mix. His family got him as a gift from a friend and surrendered him because their home is small. Bubba was adopted and returned 2 days later because he growled at the child in the home. SOCIALIZATION Bubba’s original family reports that he’s friendly with strangers of all ages and lived with children ages 8-12. They report that he was friendly with them. They report that he’s playful with other dogs and had lived with another large dog. They report that he’s curious and playful with cats. Bubba’s second family report that he’s friendly/outgoing with adult strangers. He was friendly and playful with the 8 year old boy in the home when he first arrived. The boy was petting him on top of his head. After about an hour at home, Bubba growled at the child while the child approached him. The owner restrained him by his collar and he pulled towards him, tense, staring at him. On a walk at the park, he growled at other dogs and then at children while pulling towards them, barking a few times. Bubba didn’t bite anyone in either home. BEHAVIOR Bubba’s original family reports that he allowed his owner to touch his food bowl but growled if someone else touched or took it. They report that he didn’t mind having toys or treats touched, ran away during baths, and barked when strangers approached the home. Bubba’s adopter reported that he didn’t mind when he took his food bowl. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Bubba’s first family reports that he’s high-energy. He wasn’t housetrained and pottied inside. They report that he’s destructive (not further explained) when tethered alone in the home but well-behaved while free-roaming alone. Bubba’s adopter describes Bubba as friendly, affectionate, playful, obedient, eager to learn, and high energy. He reports that he was pottying as soon as he got outside on each walk; he gave him treats and praised him. Inside, he only pottied on wee-wee pads. Both families report that Bubba sat when asked and pulls on his leash. His first family had walked him without a leash and he stayed nearby. They fed him Beneful dry dog food 5-6 times per day. Bubba had a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail while I pet him, scanned him (+), and collared him. He stood up and leaned against me.
11/08/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Social and timid” read his intake notes and that describes him well, but I would add “affectionate and snuggly” to complete that description. Happy to see me in front of his kennel, his tail wagged and he did a little jig as I opened his door. Although we’re told he’s not housetrained, he did potty outside and his kennel was clean. He’s a baby at 7 mos old so it’s likely that he’s still learning what it’s all about. Bubba does little bounces on leash, so happy to be out for a walk. In the park he assumes the birds and squirrels are there for him to chase and he made it his mission to approach them all. Off leash in a pen he submissively rolls into my lap for hugs and kisses and he’s an awesome snuggle boy. He was the perfect end to my day – and a perfect snuggle partner. We’re told he’s “great with kids”, lived with another dog, is curious but playful with cats, may guard his food bowl, and knows ‘sit’. In playgroup he romped “exuberantly” with other dogs, so may love to have a canine sibling in his new home. He’s an awesome little guy who needs a bit of TLC (better nutrition) for some hair loss on his face. I loved my snuggle time with this sweetheart of a boy, whose name is an affectionate reference to ‘brother’. He’s hoping for a new home, new people to love and play with, and most importantly, people with whom to snuggle. Ask to meet him today.
