04/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Okay everyone, I’m here now, where’s the action at?!! My name’s Bryson and I’m a ‘business at the front, party at the back’ kind of guy–my face may look all regal and majestic but scratch the surface (quite literally) and just watch my wiggle butt go go go! I take having fun pretty seriously, and when it comes to tail wags, snuggle time, exploring, meeting other dogs or jumping for whatever that is you’re holding in your hand, you can count on me to bring enough enthusiasm to power the party for hours. I love other dogs and do a happy play bow when I meet them, and all my human friends get plenty of hugs and attention too. I ADORE being petted (just can’t get enough of it), and the best way to help me chill out is by sitting down and going to town on the full-body massage. If you aim for my butt I will back right up into your lap for more, and if you rub my side I’ll sit, then close my eyes and just give in to the bliss…mmmmmm, that’s the spot! I’m not really into toys, but I enjoy taking long walks through the park, especially if there might be some squirrels to chase, and I am so good at sniffing that people say I must be part Hound dog. I’ve also been told I’m a big, strong guy (yeah, the chicks really dig me…the dudes too!) but once wrangled into a harness leash I’m really pretty easy to handle, and it seems like I’m very house trained as well. So let’s recap…handsome, people friendly, dog friendly, fun and funny, affectionate, playful…am I missing anything? Sure, I might need some training to curb my jumping but with a strong pack leader and the right motivation (hint: it starts with a T and ends in ‘reats’) I’ll be more than happy to learn how to sit and stay. My motto? Go big or go home! My dream? Having the chance to do both. So whaddaya say…forever family or bust?
04/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bryson pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Bryson followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed when playing tag but during the last tag he became jumpy and mouthy (moderate). He was not interested in toys. Bryson show a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal (jumpy and mouthy). The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game and became jumpy and mouthy. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Bryson is polite and tolerant. He allows the helper dog to mount him and jump on him to solicit play. He approaches her with a soft body and shows interest, but he does not engage in play.
04/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bryson typically greets and sniffs, often showing interest when solicited but not engaging. After multiple interactions, however, he began shifting his intentions to mounting–both males and females. He does respond well to correction from the other dogs. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatability with any resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs Bryson is polite and tolerant. He allows the helper dog to mount him and jump on him to solicit play. He approaches her with a soft body and shows interest, but he does not engage in play. 4/12 update: Bryson offers polite greeting, and briefly begins to solicit play. 4/13 update: Bryson offers polite greeting and initially roams to pen. After some time, he re-approaches and attempts to mount the female dog. 4/14 update: Bryson greets politely then attempts to mount both males and females.
