02/15/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/15/16 13:11 Bryce is a young, male APBT mix. Police found him tethered to a pole on a very short leash. They report that he was very friendly with them and that he sat in the car and looked out the window on the way here. Bryce has dandruff on his back and sores on his paws. Bryce had a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail as he approached us and while we pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, and positioned him for pictures. He leaned into us while we pet him. He took a toy from us gently. He pulled on his leash.
02/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Bryce caught my attention at once. He reminded me of another young dog I met few years ago and who leads now a wonderful life in the country. Like him, Bryce makes sure to be heard in his kennel. He wants out, run, be in company. “I know you were already in the yard, Bryce and I heard such good things about you..” Indeed, Bryce enjoys his time with his peers, plays well with all and respects those who do not want to mingle. He is a good looking young man, healthy, of medium build and dressed in a bright tiger brindle suit. Bryce does pull on the leash and does his business on the way. Meeting small and big pooches in the street is no problem for him. Free in a pen, he stays around me, sits on command and takes treats very politely from my hand. He loves to play ball and retrieves very nicely. No guarding whatsoever with Bryce. He is smart, and clearly has played before with another human. He has this charming way to put both his paws around my hand, chew his ball and enjoy caresses, all at the same time. I really love him. Bryce is really a nice guy, a dog who will make a top companion, a forever best friend any new master or family would dream to have and cherish. Bryce is at the Manhattan Care Center, scored very high in his behavioral evaluation and is ready to meet you in our adoption quarters.
02/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bryce walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Bryce was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Bryce did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, dog licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
02/16/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bryce engages in bouncy play with males and females. He is typically polite and respectful of the other dogs allowing them to determine the level of play. Throughout his stay, however, he has begun to mount more and may only do this during play; this could be a sign of increased stress due to the duration of his stay. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior team feels that Bryce could go to a home with another playful dog, but to allow him time to acclimate to his new surroundings before introducing him to any resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Bryce briefly attempts to solicit play from the female greeter. He is respectful and does not continue to solicit when his attempts are not reciprocated. 2/17 update: Bryce engages in play with a female dog, often using his paws during play. 2/18 update: Bryce is playful and uses his paws often during play, but he does continuously mount a young male dog. He is respectful of less interested dogs. 2/19 update: Bryce, again, mounts a male dog, but he offers correction when he is mounted. He engages in some play, offering vocalizations in attempts to solicit. 2/20 update: Bryce is polite with dogs who are not interested in play; greeting then allowing them space to explore the yard. He is more engaging with playful dogs, but once he starts mounting he does not stop, even once correction is offered. 2/22 update: Bryce is polite when greeting and engages in soft play with both males and females. 2/23 update: Bryce is polite when greeting males and females. 2/24 update: Bryce engages in soft play with males and females. 2/25 update: Bryce briefly engages in soft play, then spends some time roaming the pen.
