09/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/12/16 13:15 Basic Info Bruno is a three year old bull terrier who spent all of his life with his previous owner. He was surrendered because he had an untreated medical issue that caused his feet to bleed. Socialization Bruno was reported to be friendly around strangers- he loves to be pet by anyone, especially behind the years. He lived with three children ages 4, 9, and 10. He loved to cuddle with them and would play with them exhuberantly. He played with his adult owner exhuberantly, as well. He has never lived with other animals but likes to bark at dogs on the street while wagging his tail. Behavior Bruno is house trained and is well behaved when left home alone. He does love to steal human food off the table if you turn around. Previous owner did not know his behavior during storms or fireworks. Previous owner reported that he will allow her to take away food, treats, and toys. He will allow being restrained (and sometimes enjoys it, thinking of it as a cuddle!). He will bark when people enter the yard or house but stop when told to. For a New Family to Know Bruno was described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. He has a medium activity level. Previous family would take him for one fifteen minute walk a day. He loves to follow his owners around the house, especially the kitchen. He is used to dry grain free food. He will pull on the leash when walked, and was only used to leashed walks. Behavior on Intake Bruno came right up to counselor and sniffed counselor. He allowed for petting all over his body and was constantly wagging his tail with his mouth open. He sniffed around the room a bit, and then stood by counselor and leaned against counselor until he was taken to his kennel. When counselor was sitting in a chair, he would put his face in counselor’s lap and encourage counselor to pet him behind his ears. He allowed for collaring and all other handling.
09/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love Bull Terriers – their unique look and interesting personalities are not for everyone, but if ‘different’ appeals to you, than Bruno might be your man…er, dog. Surrendered by his family due to an allergy or something going on with his legs/feet causing them to bleed (he did not have medical attention before joining us) we’re told he loved to cuddle with his three human siblings ages, 4,9 and 10, and played exuberantly with his adult. We’re also told he’s housetrained (check), well behaved when left home alone, doesn’t guard his things, and will steal human food off the table if left unattended. No wonder he looks so well fed! Bruno’s coat is clean and white, he loves being pet and when I found ‘the spot’ near his ear I got his back leg going – love that! Every single staff person told me what a good dog he is and I totally agree. His leash manners were good, he loved cuddling with me, enjoyed some treats, put his head in my lap while I was taking some notes, and is simply friendly and nice. Bruno does bark at other dogs who pass us, and will do best as your one and only dog. So snuggly, and so affectionate there’s probably only room on your lap for Bruno anyway!
09/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bruno pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Bruno was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Mancha was not interested in toys. Bruno was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Bruno is friendly around strangers- he loves to be pet by anyone. He lived with three children ages 4, 9, and 10. He loved to cuddle with them and would play with them exuberantly. He played with his adult owner exuberantly, as well. He has never lived with other animals but likes to bark at dogs on the street while wagging his tail. Previous owner reported that he will allow her to take away food, treats, and toys. Bruno did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
09/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
09/15/16: The previous owner of Bruno cites that “He has never lived with other animals but likes to bark at dogs on the street while wagging his tail”. Bruno displays a tense body and hard barks when greeting the female greeter through the gate. A muzzle is applied for safety precaution. When allowed into the pen off-leash, Bruno initially charges after the greeter while air-snapping. After handler interruption, Bruno re-approaches with a tense body and high, stiff tail. He intently sniffs the female greeter dog, and briefly hops back when she attempts to solicit play. Bruno’s muzzle was not removed during this interaction. The behavior team feels that Bruno should be the only resident dog, before following up on his/her behavior around them outside of the care center.
