Bruno
Hello, my name is Bruno. My animal id is #16059. I am a male brown dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 13-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit – too many animals already.
Bruno is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex which is contagious to other dogs. Bruno will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Bruno should go to an experienced pet parent as he is fearful and may take time to warm up to his handler.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 86.7 lbs

Summary:: Bruno came into the room timid, tense with his body low, he becomes social after sometime and allows to be pet on his body.
Summary (1):: Bruno initially was shut down, visibly shaking with a tucked tail, but as he continue to participate in group, Bruno became confident around other dogs. He socializes with a soft posture and is slightly sexually motivated. Bruno was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Bruno be placed in a home with resident dogs that are respectful, well socialized and matches his calm sociability. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. 12/14: When off leash at the Care Center, Bruno is extremely nervous and shut down. He stayed in one spot, visibly shaking with a tucked tail. The greeter dog’s leash was held, to give him an opportunity to approach her. He displayed a slight interest, moving a bit towards her but stop when handlers were near. 12/21-22: Today Bruno appeared much more confident, interacting socially with a female dog. He did not lay down, but instead exchanges greets, and was slightly sexually motivated-he did not mount. He explores the pens, seeking attention from handlers, and checking in with the other dog. 12/23: Today, Bruno met a soft intact male dog. He displays a high tail while exchanging sniffs. He tolerates the other dog’s persistent muzzle licks and solicitations. He explores the pens the rest of his session.
Date of intake:: 12/13/2017
Date of initial:: 12/14/2017
Summary:: Timid but allowed all handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:: Bruno displays a low activity level in the care center.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: ADULT ONLY HOME
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Bruno is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time.
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Bruno may need time to warm up to the handler as he initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Bruno to interact at his own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing him to new/unfamiliar situations.
